 destiny 2 lightfall maelstrom

what is up guys it's your boy Rick caucus and today you know what let's check the community feedback on lightfall just gonna search it up here yep there it is and uh oh my God yeah things are not going well turns out lightfall is getting a massive amount of public backlash with a lot of people really disliking this expansion I mean it's Fallen to mostly negative on Steam and for comparison the witch Queen is the exact opposite with mostly positive heck the 30th anniversary is mixed Beyond light even is mixed the last mostly negative is Shadow keep so what the heck is going on here is all of this backlash deserved what exactly is it about is it the entire expansion or do people just not like certain things well in this video we're gonna go over all of that but I should mention guys anytime you give an opinion on Destiny too you always get some backlash I had people say that they actually unsubscribed because I was being so negative because I made a couple of videos with criticisms during season of plunder and then literally a day later people were mad at me for being a bungee shell because I wasn't being negative enough you can't win with the destiny Community it feels like sometimes but again myself and I'm sure a lot of you guys watching fall into the middle ground I still enjoy Destiny 2 while also admitting that many aspects can absolutely be improved upon so please keep that in mind while I'm giving you guys my opinions and again going over the opinions of other people because it doesn't matter what I think if the entire Community thinks something else and is projecting uh this opinion that's what Outsiders are going to see you got to understand that even if you absolutely love lightfall this is a huge issue because someone who has no knowledge of what Destiny 2 is has never tried the game before they're gonna say oh Destiny 2 I I saw an ad for that let me look it up on Steve team oh my goodness what is going on here right so that absolutely that public perception matters quite a bit so again what exactly are people mad about well let's take a gander into the reviews I've played Destiny for seven years and this is the first time I've ever felt inclined to review an expansion that's because Bungie has somehow completely undone the strides they've taken in recent years to improve the narrative so it just goes three billion dollar company by the way uh 2.6 thank you very much the story is a complete car crash you're being yelled at by an old man giving you blank that you are going aren't going fast enough blah blah blah just a friendly reminder that the witch Queen was made from the devs houses during the pandemic prior to receiving billions of dollars from Sony and it was fantastic This Disaster was made in their studio with billions of dollars worth of funding this is pure laziness let's see another one hard to believe the same people that made the witch Queen a good good expansion made this you can go ahead and skip this one strand is weak story goes nowhere a decent gameplay terrible storytelling okay so this right here decent gameplay terrible storytelling guys I think that really really sums it up the vast majority of people's complaints is involving the storyline right and that is overshadowing everything else.

the other complaint was definitely strand a lot of people got their hands on Strand and really didn't like it said it was too weak I I'm gonna disagree right off the bat I actually uploaded a video yesterday about a strand Titan build I think is very good like you can take into higher level more difficult content and you'll do just fine with it but part of that is in response to this backlash Bungie actually did an update in the middle of the night and made all of these strand fragments that were previously locked behind time Gates like you're gonna have to wait until after the brand new raid the root of nightmares was beaten before you can actually go and unlock these fragments for your character they just made all of that stuff available to unlock so today you can go and buy every single aspect and fragment and grenade and all that stuff for your Strand subclass and that absolutely did improve public perception of strand again I think people were just overly negative a bit on strand even before that point you could do some pretty powerful things with strand but part of that is again due to the story now how does that make any sense you're saying Rick how are people mad at strand because they're mad at the storyline well that's exactly a thing it seems like strand was shoehorned into the storyline you're trying to find this MacGuffin the veil and the whole time uh you gotta go and find oh calus has a secret but you gotta go to this place where the Strand is to get some strand bucks and then you can touch some strand goop to get the Strand powers and fight these enemies with their strand powers and you have to do that so many times during the campaign additionally when it does this when it empowers you with strand um it's not exactly always as good as what you were running previously like every single time I did the legend campaign right I had a good build going in to those particular levels I was on a Titan and I was running the double pulse grenade Titan Arc Grenadier build I was cracked and now you're telling me I gotta give that up and then I gotta pick up this strand okay it's cool but it's not as good as what I was running right and then on the Warlock I was running the Starfire protocol Fusion grenade build again I was cracked out of my mind on the hunter the gear Falcons volatile rounds invisibility build so every single time during the campaign when I was forced literally forced to use strand I would become weaker right and that I think was a huge mistake on Bungie's part especially because the legend campaign is super fun and there definitely is some difficulty to that so making you fight a boss with a weaker subclass I don't think panned out very well sometimes you would get significantly increased charge rates even including your super and when you would get your super back really quickly it was fun and you felt a lot more powerful but then later on during the campaign it would just give your super the normal recharge rate so you have a completely different build geared towards different things you know you have grenade siphon mods on for example so your grenades are supposed to produce orbs of power to make your build work and then all of a sudden you have grapple hooks instead of grenades and and they do no damage right so like what am I supposed to do here and honestly the result is that Bungie kind of shot themselves in the foot strand isn't that bad but when you're forced to use it and the rest of your build doesn't change and it's all designed around something completely different it feels weaker than it really is now that you can go out you know after beating the legendary campaign and tailor your strand build around whatever you want it feels way better to use but it's not just strand people are upset about with regards to the campaign it's the storyline itself now I will go into minor spoilers here because if I don't the complaints won't make any sense so please feel free to either skip ahead or just kind of dip out at this point if you want to remain spoiler free however essentially this entire campaign feels shoehorned in it begins with the witness arriving at the traveler ready to enact their master plan but then they suddenly stop for some reason and you need to do deal with the Veil The Veil is this kind of mystical artifact it did exist within the lore it's on Neptune in this Hidden City Neo Muna we go there we find the cloud Striders which are like the Defenders of neomuna all of this so far is actually sounding pretty cool that's all great and not to mention in my opinion playing the actual campaign the gameplay is fun like the enemy density is fantastic you can really pop off with supers and and builds and so on I do enjoy the difficulty of the legendary campaign I remember the days when we didn't have that the campaign felt so Hollow the rewards you know the guaranteed exotic you get for beating the campaign that's all great but the narrative takes its course you are done the campaign you finish the final level and you know not a single extra thing about the veil it's so bad that fellow Destiny 2 YouTuber my name is bife known as the lore daddy that is his nickname he specializes in lore he she made a video complaining and saying I am the lore guy and I don't have any idea what the veil is or what it does and so how is a schmuck like me I don't even pay attention to the lore right and of course I'm gonna have no idea what's going on right like I was just like oh shoot enemy fun that was you know my entire mindset going through the campaign but yeah the actual storyline itself really doesn't explain anything it feels like a side quest really and it is just the ultimate example of a McGuffin right and that's a Turman Cinema used to describe you know a random object in Fast and Furious we got to go all about family and obtain the quimble and the quimble will let us shut down the thing that's gonna blow up the world Dominic Toretto stars in honestly I will say that fast and furious that franchise does a better job of explaining their mcguffins then Bungie did with this storyline within lightfall I'm dead serious and unfortunately isn't just about that right like if it was oh we have this mysterious thing we don't really explain too much about this thing but the characters we meet along the way are really fun and enjoyable I don't think people's perception would have been that negative but it's just the campaign itself narratively was just all over the place and filled with Messy dialogue and frankly unlikable characters a lot of people are pointing to these Cloud Striders they're supposed to be these cool heroes of this Lost Civilization they're just cringy they just don't have well-written dialogue and they just come out of nowhere there's no lead up anywhere before lightfall so you really aren't given enough time to enjoy these characters the best example is Rohan he is the older Klaus Strider and he spoiler alert dies during the campaign but you have like if you just play the campaign and don't go and like talk to even do extra dialogue options you have like two interactions with this guy and one of them is him saying yeah Cloud Striders only live for 10 years I've been doing this for nine years it's like okay well I I know it's gonna happen you know it's it's every single like cop Drama Oh this is my last day on The Force boys I retire tomorrow just gonna do this one last case I hope nothing goes wrong like come on it is the most obvious Trope that's been played out a million times you know as soon as he said that I go one year left in me that he's a dispensable character he's gonna die and of course he does and so he sacrifices himself and you feel nothing it's like this character has talked to me twice I already know he's gonna die and he dies like you know I I feel absolutely nothing no connection to this character whatsoever meanwhile Bungie makes one of their best expansions ever and arguably the best expansion forsaken entirely revolving around a character's death cage six the community absolutely loves it the tone is phenomenal you care about this character we had years to care about this character uh but we could have done that in lightfall why isn't it Amanda holiday sacrificing herself someone we know are familiar with right you have a brand new character that comes into the fold says two things to you dies and you're supposed to care and you just don't especially because you then have rohan's younger trainee Nimbus takeover and deliver some of the most awkward and cringy dialogue possible there's a very few lines about how rohan's death affects Nimbus you get a little bit out of this character you know really being kind of upset but they're not supposed to care but they do and you think it's going somewhere and then you talk to Nimbus a little bit later about a quest and they go well let's get those cabal pow pow I'm gonna punch him right in the gut Papa pow I'm not even making that up that's literally what Nimbus says and it just completely is a total departure from what Bungie was trying to do with rohan's death it's just so poorly EX and so there's been so much backlash against Nimbus people calling this character cringy and undoubtedly the dialogue delivered is cringy but Nimbus is supposed to be a young up and coming trainee an awkward teenager essentially which is fine you get glimpses of something more sometimes but you're given no time to get to know these characters during the campaign you're spending all your time also talking about strand it just it just doesn't work and so guys that really sums up why people are upset right it is really all revolving around that campaign and mainly The Narrative part of it yes strand being shoehorned in is another major complaint but it sucks because that's kind of it the rest of the lightfall expansion in my opinion gameplay wise is fantastic there's so many cool things to do on neomuna the new public event activity uh terminal override is pretty fun the whole concept of uh getting these keys and unlocking it uh I've seen so many people uh there trying out new builds fighting these uh big enemies the changes to difficulty feel quite good in my opinion like you can't just ignore enemies in public events anymore you can't just feel like a god slaying out and taking no damage if you see a wyvern you're like oh crap I I actually need to deal with this and that is something that honestly I haven't felt in quite a while while playing Destiny not to mention uh the weapons are a lot of them pretty cool we're seeing some first ever weapons we have the first ever wave frame grit heavy grenade launcher it's stasis it shoots out a wave just like a special way A-frame but it's got six shots in the magazine like it's something we've never seen before and will it impact the meta will it not we have a ton of brand new perks on weapons to play with a Bungie completely redesigned the build crafting system now that's been met with a mixed reception if I'm being honest because it is a lot more streamlined it makes a lot more sense if you're a new player it's a lot easier to get into but we did lose a lot of the complication a lot of the variety and a lot of the mods so I really just hope Bungie improves on this system adds more armor charge mods going forward if Bungie adds a couple of armor charge mods every single season this year like by the end of the year we are all gonna love this new mod system but if they don't I think that's a colossal failure Bungie mods are just important to add to differentiate gameplay as new weapons and new perks please please get that through your head but aside from the mods themselves all of the other build crafting updates have been phenomenal right the ability to save your Loadout in game and switch to it on the Fly is so amazing for build crafting I'm just in love with it not to mention you have the the mod page where you can look over all of your mods and change stuff in One Singular page it makes it really easy to share your build with your friends send them a screenshot of One Singular page and they know what's going on and so the result of all of this is just such a weird Twilight Zone of an experience for me personally because I totally understand and I agree with a lot of the main complaints about the lightfall expansion I think the narrative just blacked completely the shoehorning in of Strand and there's some other things as well you know the Commendation system feels like a complete gimmick it could have been done so well but you know you only have certain options to choose you can only vote so many times like you get a powerful reward for commending people so it doesn't have any meaning because everyone's just trying to get the reward and they're just commending every single person they come across like stuff like that but aside from that I'm having so much fun in the game like actually playing lightfall I am enjoying massively I am loving trying out new builds I am loving some of the new Exotics they added like for example the winter bite the heavy stasis glaze everyone complained about oh it's gonna be too weak it's very fun and actually pretty powerful right even though these things might not make a huge Mark in The Meta it's fun to try them out and they feel very inventive and different when compared to other Exotics in the game and so again while I totally understand the hate I'm also having so much fun with this expansion and so it's kind of a sad thing because new players again or they're gonna look outside looking in and go wow everyone hates this expansion when in reality if they don't care about the story they're probably gonna have an absolute blast in lightfall and that's kind of the tragedy of all this that the narrative team screwed up so colossally that all of the other teams at Bungie that did a phenomenal job like they're being dragged down with them however at the end of the day Bungie has no one to blame but themselves because the comparisons to last year's expansion the witch Queen which had a fantastic storyline self-contained just so many uh good threads and Mysteries to unravel it was just such a fantastic campaign right they're charging the same price and the rumors and the leaks right now are that Bungie needed more time to work on the final shape and so they came up with what is lightfall the entire expansion in the space of about a year and shoehorned it in right to take up more time so that they could work on the real finale final shape and you know I don't know how true this really is but my good goodness the campaign feels like it and so this rumor even if it's just a rumor will persist but if that really is the case Bungie could have charged less guys this isn't just me pontificating they've done this in the past for Rise of iron and Destiny 1 for example that was an emergency expansion they were originally working on Destiny 2 they realized they couldn't get there in time so they needed something to bridge the gap you know exactly what these leaks and rumors are talking about what life all is and so as a result they charge the consumer you less money for Rise of iron than they charged with the taken King which is a major expansion right and I think even in Destiny 2 they didn't charge as much for a shadow keep if I'm remembering correctly as they did for other like major expansions like forsaken right but they have done this in the past they've said guys this isn't as big as our massive expansions this isn't as big as forsaken this isn't as big as witch Queen Etc so we're gonna charge less money because there's less content and therefore the community reception was actually a lot more fair yeah rise of iron wasn't anywhere near the quality of the taken King but the community reaction was nowhere near as negative as it is right now because people understood going in that it's not going to be the same quality the price told them that and so Bungie again shot themselves in the foot if this really was a stop Gap expansion that they knew wouldn't be on the same quality as some of their other expansions they could have charged less and lowered the expectations if they want to charge the same amount as the witch queen as forsaken we are gonna judge it on that level and that's exactly what's happening in fact it's even worse than that because Bungie is charging more ten dollars more for lightfall than they did with the witch Queen now I'll give Bungie the benefit of the doubt and blame inflation on this one but still the price is not helping things and so that really concludes the video and as a massive fan of Destiny it's really sad to see because to be honest I'm going nowhere I still love this game and like I said I'm having so much fun actually playing lightfo it's just that the outward opinion of Destiny has taken a huge hit and that's always been a problem for this franchise how many times have you heard people who don't really know about Destiny refer to it as a dead game oh Destiny 2 Dead game people still play that game it's like yes people still play it because it's a ton of fun but when stuff like this happens it really hurts the game's reputation and a result of that is just not many new people getting into the franchise which of course hurts the community as a whole so hopefully Bungie can improve things going forward uh they have promised a lot of big changes when it comes to uh the smaller New Seasons coming out for this year we are going to be getting a new raid next week and that is usually a fantastic thing right even when there were times of massive turmoil and negativity I'm thinking you know curse of Osiris expansion level negativity The Raid Lair Eater of Worlds people still love like the raid team always knocks it out of the park and so I am looking forward to the root of nightmare raid the new one and I think it probably will be fantastic right and of course that will Garner a lot of positivity um but yeah that's what's going on guys I hope you enjoyed this video found informative found it interesting what do you guys think am I off face did you love the storyline do you agree with me are you having fun uh playing the game itself not if you
